Discover Vaqueros Grill

If you’re driving along 32350 TX-249 # 10, Pinehurst, TX 77362, United States, and craving bold Tex-Mex flavors with a homestyle twist, Vaqueros Grill is the kind of place that pulls you in with the smell alone. I’ve stopped here more than once after long afternoons in the Pinehurst area, and each visit has felt less like eating out and more like settling into a neighborhood staple where the staff actually remembers what you ordered last time.

The first thing you notice is the energy. It’s relaxed but lively, the kind of diner atmosphere where families gather around big tables while solo diners chat with servers about daily specials. The menu leans heavily into Tex-Mex classics-enchiladas smothered in rich sauce, sizzling fajitas, tacos loaded with seasoned beef or grilled chicken-but there’s also a strong lineup of burgers, breakfast plates, and hearty lunch specials. That range makes it accessible whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or a full dinner with friends.

On my most recent visit, I ordered the carne asada plate. The steak came out tender, with a char that locked in flavor without drying it out. It’s clear they understand proper grilling temperatures, something the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association often emphasizes when discussing food safety and flavor retention. The rice and refried beans weren’t an afterthought either; they were seasoned well, not overly salty, and served hot. That consistency matters. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, maintaining correct holding temperatures is essential for both safety and quality, and Vaqueros Grill seems to take that seriously.

Their fajitas deserve special mention. Served on a cast-iron skillet, they arrive still sizzling, which isn’t just dramatic-it keeps the proteins at a safe, appetizing temperature while enhancing aroma and texture. I’ve seen too many restaurants lose points by letting dishes cool off before they hit the table. Here, timing is tight. The grilled onions and bell peppers still have a slight crunch, showing they’re not overcooked. That balance between caramelization and freshness reflects a kitchen that understands technique, not just recipes.

Another standout is the breakfast menu. Pinehurst locals often mention in reviews that the breakfast tacos are a must-try. I gave them a shot during a weekend visit, and they were packed generously-fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and warm tortillas that tasted freshly heated rather than reheated. Protein-rich breakfasts like this are often recommended by nutrition experts for sustained energy throughout the day, and you can feel the difference compared to fast-food alternatives.

Service is another reason this spot keeps pulling people back. During one visit, I noticed how the staff handled a large party that came in unexpectedly. Orders were organized carefully, modifications were repeated back for accuracy, and food was delivered without confusion. That kind of process-confirming orders, pacing dishes, checking back after the first few bites-is something hospitality professionals are trained to do, and it builds trust. It also matches what many positive online reviews highlight: friendly servers and dependable service.

The location itself is convenient, especially for anyone traveling along TX-249. Parking is straightforward, and the restaurant layout accommodates both small and large groups. While it may not have the flashy design of upscale urban eateries, that’s part of its charm. It’s practical, comfortable, and clearly built around the community it serves.

Of course, like any busy grill, peak hours can mean a short wait. Friday evenings, in particular, tend to fill up quickly. However, turnover moves steadily, and the staff communicates wait times honestly, which I appreciate. Transparency goes a long way in creating a reliable dining experience.

From the quality of the grilled meats to the attentive service and well-rounded menu, Vaqueros Grill stands out as a dependable Tex-Mex and American diner option in Pinehurst. Whether you’re scanning reviews before choosing a lunch spot or simply passing through and looking for something satisfying, this place delivers consistent flavor, solid portions, and a welcoming atmosphere that feels genuinely local.

  • Best restaurant within 100 miles - change my mind. Went for a late lunch on a Monday. Service by Ethan was top notch. The food came out SO hot & fresh. Each dish we had was truly phenomenal. This is ORIGINAL Goodson's Cafe level food - and I mean Ma Goodson. Was able to speak to the chef owner afterwards; he has put his heart and soul into this business and it shines through. Support this family business NOW, you won't regret it... the food is honest, delicious and home-cooked.

  • This is a small, strip mall, restaurant with GREAT FOOD! The waitress was very welcoming, did not hover over us while we ate, and the food all came out at same time. Only additional seasoning I needed was some salt and pepper to the gravy---not because I had to, but just to make it to "my" taste. I had the Large Chicken Fried Steak and my wife had the appetizer sampler plate. Both were great and the portion size to cost was great, too. In fact, we both took home a to-go box! Great place to eat at a fair price. And, Dillon Daily---this is not a fake review!!!

  • Alright so, we went here on a Thursday at about 7:10pm. They closed at 8pm. Wasn't sure how the service was going to be but to my surprise, it was excellent. We got our food by 7:31. Our server was Brody. Friendly guy and even spoke with my son about the fake snake he brought in. Silly. The atmosphere had a cozy feeling. There was Christmas music playing and the place smelled amazing. I ordered the burger, my husband ordered the chicken fried steak and my son got the tenders and fries. The burger reminded me of a Whataburger burger with the mustard on the bottom but with a thicker patty and cooked medium. The bun was toasted with a little crunch around the rim(pictured). Loved it! My husband said the chicken fried steak was seasoned well and not over battered which was great! His sides were green beans and mashed potatoes. Nothing special. My son actually ate the tenders and he's a picky eater. He added a little salt on those and the fries. The fries were a little over done but honestly they had a good crunch and were still soft on the inside. All in all we will definitely be coming back with friends and family. Oh I forgot to mention, there was a bigger party sitting near the front window. I think they used about 3-4 tables and it looked like enough space. Wasn't crowded. Just in case you have a big family or wanted to do a group outing with friends.

  • Visited on a Monday about 5pm...not busy at all. Several other customers came in after me I had chicken fried chicken green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. It was excellent, literally like it was cooked at home The owner is a retired Navy Vet and does the cooking himself. The young man that waited my table was Brody and was very good. Oh and the biscuit they give you... homemade yeast roll

  • If you’re craving comfort food, this spot is an absolute must! The chicken fried steak here is hands down the best I’ve had in years—perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and smothered in a rich, creamy gravy that tastes homemade. Portions are generous and the sides are just as good—the mashed potatoes are buttery and smooth and the hot rolls are fantastic. Service was warm and attentive, and even though the place was busy, our food came out hot and fast.

  • Great evening meal at the Vaqueros Grill. We both ordered one of their signature meals -- the Chicken Fried Steak. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly. It was a nice touch to get our individual bowl of gravy. We ordered "comfort" sides with our entrees, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. Our meals were hot, flavorful and generous portions - [we ordered the "small" size]. The service staff was very attentive. Tonight was our first time here, but it won't be our last. Really was impressed with the meal!
